Why bother with small groups in a time-pressured culture? Busy people can become isolated and disconnected, and sometimes they become pretty empty inside. They're surprised at the joy of authentic community when they find a place to belong in a small group, a group that fits their individual passions and needs. They make that group a priority. What makes these kinds of small groups happen? Start with God. Ask, "What is God up to in my church, my life?" Listen to God's call and join him in the work. Then invite others to join in the process, for people "own" what they help create. These seem to be questions asked by many! Our pastors cannot care for all the members of the church. When it comes to care and discipleship, the small group is an important, strategic venue in the life of the church. Meaningful relationships, care giving, connection and spiritual growth surface as life changing components within the context of small groups. A huge challenge in our church today is to turn a large gathering into smaller units where community is created. These small groups are a safe place where you can be yourself. Transparency is at the core of every authentic relationship. Building meaningful relationships early on in a small group setting provides members a platform from which they can share and discuss God's word. Making connections with what is discussed to the daily lives of participants allows the Holy Spirit to grow disciples and transform lives!
